Relationships
Hola,
This is my first blog. I had no idea what to write until I thought of the conversation I just had with my girlfriend about an hour ago. She was in a relationship for the better half of a decade and suddenly found herself in the midst of dealing with infidelity.
Now, this is common. But just like the common cold, these things kick our asses. People get their hearts broken just about as often as I have a meal (which is pretty often; I am a foodie). So, I find myself in the position where I have to say something to make her feel better; help her realize that there is a world outside of that failed relationship and it can offer so much more than what she has had. But how do you actually make someone understand that?
When one is suffering, one usually doesn't want to hear the "this too shall pass" mumbo jumbo. So, I personally resort to Old Faithful - mis amigas. Rebound guys never work, and staying home sulking in self-pity is pathetic. Why not spend your troubled times with the people who have and always will love you no matter what? Back to basics, girls. This is where Moms and Girlfriends strive. Go out to a jazz club, a favorite restaurant, a comedy club, ANYTHING. Just go.
I've found that it doesn't matter where I go with my girlfriends. When I am with them, a smile is on my face and for the time being, my problems are a miniscule memory being defeated by the presence of the all-powerful GIRLFRIEND LOVE. And in my opinion, that's about as true as love gets.
Over and out,
T
